Hotel Du Buet

They seem to think the location alone will keep the business going, no matter how badly they treat guests. The manager's replies to earlier low reviews give you a preview of what to expect. Be ready for a string of insults from the inebriated coven running the place. When we asked when our room would be ready, the answer was, “No, we can't tell you when your room will be ready. Maybe 5pm maybe 10pm, who knows?”

There are plenty of other nice places nearby. I came in for one drink and paid by card. Then I decided to have another, but when I tried to pay by card again, the woman running the place gave me a three minute telling-off like I was a schoolchild for making two separate payments instead of starting a tab before I knew I wanted a second drink. Businesses usually handle this with a minimum card spend, which makes the rule clear and lets people decide later whether to order more without being scolded. I had cash and would have used it if she'd simply asked nicely. Instead, she poured the drink first, then got very angry over something that's completely normal elsewhere. Astoundingly rude.

The food was just okay, and the service was strange and bad. The old lady in the bar can turn even a good day into a bad one, and make it worse than that. Payment didn't really work either. Go somewhere else to eat and drink, and your day will be much better.

It's easy to get to the slopes from Hotel Du Buet, since it's right by the train station. I've had the most amazing experience here again. The hotel has been in the same family for 120 years, and staying there feels like being welcomed into their home. Great food, drinks and atmosphere, and affordable too!
