Hôtel La Lubiane

The hotel is clean, the employee is extremely nice, and the views are great. You can walk to everything Vence has to offer, from the market to food and shopping. It was a bit hard to locate, tucked onto a corner without much signage. We passed it three times before finding it. The main drawback is no A.C. It cools off at night, which helps, but I still missed having a cold night’s sleep.

La Lubiane and Vence turned into unexpected highlights of a European trip full of memorable places. We found the hotel while looking for parking not too far from Nice airport. It’s an old place with plenty of character, though the style is quaint rather than contemporary, with old furniture and carpeting. It may not suit anyone after a familiar brand-name hotel. The terrace view of the mountains and old bridge was incredible, a lovely setting for coffee or wine and maybe trying to write like Hemingway. The atmosphere reminded us of a 1950s French movie. They even had free vintage postcards of the place, and kindly let us use the bathroom and parking after checkout.

The room was clean and nicely decorated, with a really good view. The owner was very friendly and helpful, and breakfast was great. It’s a good base for visiting Vence, the surrounding towns and villages, or Nice. If I’m in the area again, I’d love to stay here another time.

The owner was polite and helpful, and the view from our room was fantastic, though of course it depends on where you are in the building. For me, this is the ideal French hotel. It isn’t modern, which is just what I want in France. The petit dejeuner was anything but petit, with croissants, toast and jam. I loved it.
