Brit Hotel de Grignan

I travel to Vichy often and have tried plenty of places, but De Grignan is clearly my favorite. The breakfast is great, and the staff are very kind. One of the best hotels in Vichy.

The room was small, but the bed and bedding were really comfortable, and the air conditioning was strong. Breakfast was okay, though nothing special. I missed having apple juice and more kinds of jam.

The bed was comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was what you'd expect, mostly continental, and for around £100, bed and breakfast felt like good value. It's in a good spot for local restaurants, and we used the hotel as a stop on our drive from Spain to the UK. For English-speaking guests, finding the hotel on arrival may be confusing. We struggled at first, then parked by the entrance and realized the secure parking was beside the hotel, behind a gate. When driving up, let reception know you've booked ahead. They checked and found my booking. We had messaged through Booking.com before paying because parking was essential for us. The receptionist was kind, understanding, and spoke excellent English. There was no complimentary water in the room for tea, so we'd brought our own tea, coffee, and long-life milk. The internet worked well and saved data, though with low roaming costs, using our phones or tablet would have been fine too. The TV had no Sky or British channels apart from CNN and BBC News, but that wasn't an issue since we had a tablet to stream to. After a long drive, we just wanted to rest, and the spa bath was a nice feature.

We slept well and would recommend this place for an overnight stop on a drive south. It's right in the town center, with secure parking, and our junior suite was recently refurbished within the past few years. It was very clean and comfortable, with a good bed and linen. The spa bath was a nice extra. Breakfast had a nice selection, including very good scrambled eggs. If you arrive late and don't want to go out, they can provide ready-made meals in jars and desserts. Reception was really helpful and gave us a list of cafes and restaurants. We ate at scarlets, the pizza place around the corner, and it was simply horrible, probably the worst pizza I've ever had. When in France, eat French. There's also a good organic cafe just behind the hotel, quirky but nice.
