Maison D'hôtes Bastia

We only have one night here, so we can put up with it, but dinner took some planning because there's absolutely nothing nearby. We couldn't find the house until we called the owner, who wasn't there. The road up is very steep, even on a motorcycle. Some parts are still being built, and it feels like someone may still be living there. There are mold spots at the bottom of the shower, and one toilet won't open from the inside 😓🫣.

The place is so isolated that there are no shops nearby and nowhere to go for a walk. Though there's a nice view of town, you can only see it from the parking area. The room is roomy, with a big window facing a shared garden, so the blinds have to stay down for privacy. The air conditioning was either set to 16 degrees or switched off. Getting there is difficult: Google Maps has the wrong location, and the road is steep and rough. Really disappointing, I'd avoid it.

The bedding was comfortable, but finding the place was difficult even with GPS, and getting there was a struggle. Around the front of the house there was dirt and animal droppings, with the smell that comes with it. We also found hair in our bed, so the hygiene needs attention. Our bedroom shutter wouldn't open, which meant we woke up looking at the electric curtain instead of the sea. The soundproofing was poor too. Plenty of major details need sorting out.

The room itself was modern, attractive and fairly spacious, with good quality bedding. The Wi-Fi didn't work, though, and no one was there to welcome us, although the owner was quite friendly when we spoke by phone. Finding the place by GPS was impossible, so we had to work out our own route from a map. The road to the house is steep and in bad shape. Make sure your brakes are good, and don't try it in a low-clearance vehicle. The area outside was dirty, with manure everywhere because there was a cow or bull in front of our room.
