Good.

The home cooking was excellent, and we had a lovely stay in a beautiful rural setting. Eric was very attentive and caring, though his friendliness sometimes felt like a bit much when we were hoping for privacy as a couple. The estate seems better suited to a pleasant, sociable family getaway than a secluded romantic weekend. Its decor feels stuck in the 80s and is quite eclectic, but there’s a lot of potential here. A bathroom and toilet in the bedroom would make a big difference.

The grounds are beautiful and clearly very well looked after. Eric was the only person we met, and his warm, friendly, almost family-like welcome made us feel at ease right away. The showers and toilets are shared, but the lovely surroundings help make up for that, and the price makes it understandable that renovations may not be a priority. We’re planning to come back, this time without the gift box!

The generous meals and breakfast were a real treat, and the room was very pleasant. I loved walking around the grounds, especially as someone who enjoys nature. The place is unexpected and unique, with a Norman-style building outside and a mix of styles inside. The owner is warm and welcoming, and made us feel at home so quickly that leaving felt almost like saying goodbye to a friend. I’d recommend it, particularly if you like things simple.
