The cottage we requested wasn't the one we got. We were sent to another cottage at the François 1er manor, and it was a disaster. It looked nothing like the photos and was dirty and unsanitary, with dust and cobwebs everywhere. The bin was overflowing so badly we didn't dare touch it. The coffee machine still had an old filter in it, covered in mold, and the rooms had old, unpleasant bedding. I'm not even sure the sheets had been changed. The blinds were yellow, and the wardrobes were filthy inside, with moths and ants. There was no hot water when we arrived. They said a circuit breaker had tripped, but I doubt that explanation. It felt like they were trying to save money. They should at least make sure the water is on before guests arrive. We couldn't shower until the next day, when it finally got hot. The grounds could be so much nicer with that beautiful pool, but the place was poorly maintained. There was dust on the tables, the sports equipment was dirty, and so were the chair cushions. A real shame.

We'd booked two single rooms and a family room for six people at the Manoir François 1er: two adults traveling alone, plus a family of four. Only when we arrived did the owner tell us about a plumbing problem. He could have warned us beforehand, so we could have gone elsewhere, but at 8:30 p.m. in this small town we had little choice. Instead, he moved us to a run-down cottage that was a disaster: no hot water, no air conditioning, 90cm beds, scratchy blankets and a dilapidated bathroom. He said he was keeping the price even though the cottage should cost more because it was better or bigger. We were speechless. It was 90 euros for a single room in that cottage, and it wasn't worth more than 30 euros. In the morning we had to go back to the manor for breakfast. My colleague and I spend 80 nights a year in hotels, and this was our worst experience in the last five years. I don't normally write reviews, but I hope this helps others avoid the same experience. Calling it theft, I can only say hotel management is a real profession, and people like this damage an already difficult line of work.
