Le Gîte Pien

My weekend was April 12th to 13th. I'd paid for the cottage over six months beforehand, but still haven't received the refund after the owner cancelled. He gave an electrical problem as the reason, even though he'd mentioned that problem himself when I phoned to confirm the room as planned. I booked somewhere else so my weekend wouldn't be ruined, and I'm expecting my money back. I've called several more times, but the phone only goes to voicemail. I'm fed up with the answering machine. If I'm not refunded this weekend, I'll file a complaint. The owner didn't tell Booking.com or offer an alternative under its terms. This is completely unprofessional. Apparently the building is old and has a lot of problems. WARNING.

The road noise made it impossible to sleep properly, and the insulation against both sound and cold was practically nonexistent. Cars kept passing right beside the place. The bed was dreadful too. It creaked with the slightest movement, loud enough for the neighbours to hear, and sleeping was out of the question. Cleanliness was appalling, with dust, black cobwebs, damp in the bathroom, and no bin liner. They do accept dogs, which is the one positive, but the fast cars honk and are easy for a dog to hear. Honestly, I'd rather have slept in my car. Avoid at all costs.

The Saturday night noise from the bar beside the studio made it hard to sleep. We also came across a lot of ants in the kitchen, and some of the cutlery wasn't very clean. There weren't enough kitchen tools either, especially larger pans for pasta. The beds were extremely comfortable, the rooms were clean, and the bathroom was well looked after. All in all, we had a positive weekend.

For what we paid, I think it was good value. We spent two nights there to see the street kart race in Wingehies, and the Wi-Fi worked well. The living room had a sofa and TV, plus another single bed, so four people could stay. There was also a small balcony. The downstairs kitchen had everything we needed: a fridge, microwave, electric stovetop, filter coffee maker, kettle, and more. Upstairs was a bedroom with a double bed and a single, a wardrobe, bedside lamps, and clean, comfortable bedding. Towels and toilet paper were supplied. Some people might find the building a little old-fashioned, but for the price, which I think was less than a hotel, it seemed fair. We did need to bring our own breakfast. There's a bakery nearby, and a Proxi store too. One thing to know, the streetlights in Wingehies switch off at 9:30 pm, so bring a flashlight to get back inside.
