The setting and room were lovely, and this place must have quite a history, though I didn’t find out any more than what’s on Google. Breakfast is at 8.30 sharp, with nothing at all provided if you need to leave early to explore, not even toast. The landlady can hardly walk, poor thing. Perhaps it’s time for her to hand the business on.

The room was clean and tidy, and the host was lovely. When I said I didn’t want sausage or bacon, she didn’t serve them, despite what some other reviewers had said. Breakfast was a wonderful homemade meal, though the timing is strict at 8:30, and guests are expected back before 10 pm. The old farmhouse is beautiful and quirky, with fun old-school decorations, in a lovely location.

I found the intense, very old-fashioned decor quirky and interesting, and the rooms themselves were clean and comfortable. Breakfast ran from 8.30 - 9am, which suited us, but may not fit everyone’s schedule. We’d told the host several times that we’re vegetarian, yet she kept asking if we wanted bacon and sausages. She also didn’t provide the gluten-free bread we’d requested in advance. The host seemed a little unfriendly. It was a memorable, fun stay, though probably not for the faint-hearted.

After a dreadful first hotel on our anniversary walking holiday, arriving here on the second day was a relief. Our friendly host got a fire going so our wet boots could dry. The farmhouse is furnished in keeping with its age, and our room had what we needed: a comfortable bed, hot drink facilities and a great power shower in the ensuite. There’s a handy pub across the road for a well-earned beer. We woke to countryside sounds and had a lovely breakfast before setting out for another day’s walking. I’d highly recommend it and would stay again.

The house is beautiful, the rooms are clean and tidy, if a bit over-furnished, and the host was friendly and welcoming. But the dogs in the house barked for hours, and it was a constant irritation. We were staying before a charity event and had to leave early the next morning. We were told they couldn’t make breakfast for us, just leave cereal and milk out. Since I’m lactose intolerant, I had to go without. It could have been such a nice stay, but all that barking really spoiled it.
