Breakfast was outstanding, with lots of choice cooked to a high standard. We also had a private dinner at the hotel one evening, and both the food and service were amazing. The communal areas were stunning, and our country-style rooms were gorgeous, with superb showers and very comfortable beds and bedding. They were a little cold, though. We were at the Marcliffe for the Denis Law Legacy Trust annual dinner weekend. We arrived severely delayed, with just 15 minutes to get ready and leave again, but everything was ready for us. The welcome was wonderfully warm, with a huge smile. It’s also perfectly placed for the lovely walk along the disused railway line. Thank you for looking after us so well, it was a lot!

The new Skylark is a superb addition to Aberdeen. The brasserie is beautifully decorated, and we’ve already enjoyed a few meals and drinks there. Highly recommend! As wedding decorators, we’re always delighted when a couple books us for a wedding at Marcliffe. Working in the venue rooms is a joy, but the team is what really lifts the experience. They look after us suppliers so well, as well as the couples and their guests. We’ve also attended friends’ weddings at Marcliffe, and the food, rooms and team made the days incredible. I went for a Valentine meal in the fine dining section, and it was the best meal and experience I’ve ever had. Katie, our waitress, was superb, really knowledgeable about the menu and great with customers. From the moment you walk through the front doors, the lovely staff cater to your every need. This place is wow, and I can see why it’s the only 5 star in Aberdeen. Nowhere compares, and it was worth every penny.

The desserts were good and probably the highlight of our visit, and the staff stayed friendly throughout. Still, this was my first visit since the new owners took over, and I won’t be rushing back. The food and service weren’t up to the standard I used to expect from the Marcliffe. We’ve had many great meals at The Marcliffe, but the new brasserie disappointed. We waited 10-15 minutes at the bar for someone to take our pre-dinner drinks order before asking to be served. The cocktails were delicious once they arrived. At the table, we found there were no starters on the menu, and the choices felt more like pub grub than brasserie food. My chicken burger was burnt around the edges. Others had a nice fish finger sandwich and an okay Skylark burger. Our waiter forgot to order the sides, so they arrived partway through the meal. We might have stayed for drinks, but before dinner we were told the hotel bar was only open to guests dining in the conservatory. I felt sorry for the waiter who served our drinks and apologised that he hadn’t been properly trained to pour wine.

The people made this stay at The Marcliffe truly outstanding. Every staff member we encountered, from chambermaids and greeters to room service, reception, waiters, bar staff and doorpersons, was warm, professional, attentive and clearly well trained. They made it easy to relax and enjoy every moment. My husband and I stayed in the Eleanor Donan Room from Wednesday 29th October to Sunday 2nd November 2025, while I was modelling in the Kelikume Fashion & Styling Show on 31st October. The room was beautiful, quiet, safe and luxurious, a calm sanctuary throughout our stay. The restaurant was exquisite, with top-notch food at every meal, from breakfast and dinner to a celebratory toast. Lounge snacks were lovely too, just right for relaxing in an elegant setting. This was a celebration of hospitality at its finest. Thank you to the whole team. Top marks all round.
