We dropped in on a bank holiday Monday hoping for a good meal and came away impressed. The food was delicious and cooked just right, and the price was reasonable, with lots of specialist dietary options. Staff were lovely. The old building is beautiful and steeped in history, with plenty to look around and explore. We'll definitely return.

The pub gets busy in the evenings and seems popular with both locals and visitors. There’s a large events room, and bands played on two of the nights we were there. The service was excellent, rooms stayed warm and were cleaned daily, and breakfast had plenty to choose from. We spent three nights here on a winter walking trip. Its town-centre location is ideal, close to the Castle, with two big car parks nearby, one free every day except Tuesday. It wasn't expensive for such good service, and we thought it was great value. We'll be back.

The food was warm and delicious, and staff went out of their way to remove some items from our order when we asked. Everyone was kind and friendly. On my first visit to this restaurant, a lovely staff member welcomed me and showed me to my table. The pub was clean and tidy, with a nice function room, rooms to stay in, and Wi-Fi. I'd definitely come back.

Room 1 had a large, clean bed and lovely mountain views, and I personally preferred it to room 11. We were moved there the morning after arrival because Booking.com showed photos of room 11 as the deluxe room, which caused a booking mix-up. Both rooms were great. The location is ideal, just a one-minute walk to the main town, with lovely coffee and clothes shops and a nice atmosphere. On our first night, Lauren showed us to room 11 and was really lovely. It was snug and cosy, with wooden ceiling beams, crisp clean bedding, and a super-comfortable bed, 10-10. The bathroom had a great shower and bath, also 10-10. We ate in the restaurant, which was beautifully decorated for the festivities. My fish and chips were the best I've ever had, 10 out of 10. My wife had prawn pasta with garlic bread. We had drinks in the busy bar, where there was a festive feel, friendly faces, and amazing bar staff. Breakfast service and attention to detail were again amazing, and the salmon, poached egg, toast, and coffee were 10-10. I'd rate the stay, food, staff, and service 9.6. Breakfast took a while to arrive, and it seemed to have been sitting under a heat lamp, as it was dry. We'd already waited 40 minutes. I'm sure they would have made us a fresh breakfast if we'd said something. We had a brilliant time and can't wait to return in the next few months. I'd travel 130 miles for those fish and chips again, lol. Thanks to all the staff and manager.

The staff were so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us, which made the Kings Arms a lush place to celebrate with family and friends. We had rooms with a huge 40th birthday balloon, a function room decorated in an autumn style for dinner and treats, and a cosy bar snug for a full English. From arriving to saying goodbye, it was an amazing place to spend my 40th birthday. Thanks again, everyone!
