Nigel gave us a warm, friendly welcome. The room was clean, spacious and adequate, though it could use a little redecorating. For the money, no complaints. The place is handy for town, with parking alongside the property. Fresh bedding, wonderfully soft bright white towels and a clean bathroom. We’d stay again without hesitation.

The full breakfast was great, and the staff were very helpful. Our room was clean and warm, and we didn’t hear noise from the bar. The bathroom was a bit grim, though, and the old building had plenty of plumbing noise. Birds roosting outside woke me at dawn. The location is handy, about twenty minutes from the train station and close to plenty of amenities. We stayed two nights while working in the area. One thing to know: they don’t take cards, for some reason, so I had to use the cash machine down the road.

It was cheap and everywhere else was booked, so I didn’t expect much, but cleanliness should still be a given in any hotel. That wasn’t the case here, as you can see in my photo. Breakfast was another issue. I’d been given a time, but nobody was there when I arrived, so I waited in the dark. Eventually I went looking and found a chef in the kitchen. I asked if anyone was there to take my order, and he said he’d check. Next thing, he brought out a Welsh breakfast and set it on my table. It was what I would have chosen, and it was very nice, but I didn’t get the chance to order. Next time, please ask what I want!

The hotel room had actual poo on the floor, and staff gave us talc to try to cover the smell. The other room had no sheets on the bed, dirty sheets on the floor, and smelled of urine. I couldn’t even get through to them because the phone number doesn’t exist. I booked two rooms for our work lads, and they said they’d never stayed anywhere this bad. I was ashamed and embarrassed when they told me. We promptly booked another hotel, further away than we wanted, but it was worth it. This hotel is a health risk. Read all the reviews, not just the good ones. I have to give it 1 star to post this, though it doesn’t deserve any!

We’d booked a group stay and had called repeatedly beforehand to ask whether they needed a deposit to confirm the booking. The day before leaving, we rang to check about towels. The owner bluntly said he had no record of ever speaking to us and that they were fully booked. He said he’d call around to find somewhere else for us, but never returned our calls. I guess someone was willing to pay more than we were for this horrific place. Avoid at all cost!
