We found this cosy, charming spot when looking for somewhere nearby to eat lunch on a Sunday. The sea view was right in front of us, the service was excellent, and everything tasted homemade. The Sunday roast was delicious, especially the best red cabbage I’ve ever had. We also loved the sticky toffee pudding and refreshing cider.

The seafront location is great and the staff are wonderfully friendly, but the food lets the place down. It tastes good, though the roast beef comes as a cylinder and falls apart into pulled beef when you cut it. There were only two roast potatoes, with two boiled ones instead. The vegetables came in a separate dish to share between two: a decent selection of red cabbage, a few Brussels sprouts, three small broccoli florets, and just two carrot batons. The Yorkshire pudding took up most of the plate.

Becka looked after our family brilliantly. She was attentive, professional and friendly, and made us all feel at home. We had a lovely visit to the Glengower with my sisters, my mum, nephews and nieces, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere made it feel just right for bringing everyone along. The location and service were both great. We’d happily recommend Becka and look forward to coming back.

Breakfast had a good range of hot and cold choices, enough to set you up for the day. Our room, No.23, was spacious, warm, comfortable and clean, with spectacular views across Cardigan Bay. Check-in was quick and easy. The only small flaw was a tired-looking coffee table under the window, which could be fixed with sanding, staining and varnish. We’ve been visiting Aberystwyth for many years, about 2-3 times a year, but our usual hotel wasn’t available, so we tried this very popular place. Dinner brought an enormous menu: 12 starters, 15 mains and 8 desserts. I found it excessive. Keeping track of all those recipes and ingredients must put pressure on the kitchen, and it takes diners a long time to choose. A simpler 6/6/6 menu could let the chefs focus on better dishes than standard hotel fare, perhaps even a Glengower signature dish. The price is reasonable compared with other local hotels, and I was very impressed. Take a look at the eclectic drawings, pictures and paintings on the walls too; there are some real gems.

Popped in for a quick drink and found it warm, cosy, friendly and welcoming. There’s plenty of seating, and rooms are available too. We didn’t eat, but the food coming out looked good, so we’d be happy to return and try it. The bar staff seemed cheerful and friendly.
