The peaceful surroundings made this a handy base, with local attractions just a short drive away and plenty to explore nearby. We also got a thoughtful call from the owner about 25 minutes after leaving to ask if we’d enjoyed our stay. At first, we thought we’d left something behind, but that kind of personal touch means a lot. The room was beautifully decorated, with a very comfortable bed, good quality tea and coffee, and high standard curtains. The hotel side of the accommodation was nicely decorated too, and it was clear the owners care about offering a quality experience. A couple of small things let us down. The hot water was only warm, and we had to leave the tap running for quite a while before it got there. We also asked whether we could have room service or take a couple of pizzas up to our room, but were told no. The bar was quite noisy, so it would have been nice to eat somewhere quieter. It would have been a 9 if we’d been able to have pizza, and a 10 if the water had been hot. These are small points, and hopefully useful feedback rather than criticism, because the owners clearly take pride in what they’re building. The staff were incredibly friendly and always had time for a quick word, even when things were busy. Food came out quickly and dishes were cleared promptly, so I can’t fault the service. We liked it so much that we booked it for our first night in Scotland and came back again for the last. There was a good range of freshly prepared food, all delicious. The Bertha Burger was especially tasty, as was the surprisingly good spicy carrot and turnip soup. On our second visit we had pizza, and they were happy to accommodate dietary requests. Highly recommended, and we’d definitely visit again!

We dropped in for dinner and drinks and got a warm welcome from both the really friendly staff and customers. The food was great too. It’s a fantastic pub in a beautiful setting, highly recommended.

We had a really enjoyable stay and evening at the Aultbea Hotel. The room was very comfortable, with a big bed and tea and coffee available. Dinner at the jam jar bar was superb: the goat’s cheese starter was delicious, the fresh cod main was wonderful, and the bar staff were lovely.

Matt checked us in and was really helpful with what we needed during our stay. The room was lovely, with beautiful furniture, a high quality bed, fresh linen and a very clean feel. Dinner in the restaurant was good, though perhaps there were too many chips on the menu, which isn’t unusual in Scotland. We’d happily recommend the hotel. Our only mistake was not booking an extra day!
