Acle Kings Head

The restaurant food was very good and cooked well, although the steak choice was disappointing. They only had two fillets and flat iron because, we were told, they’d been busy the day before. That isn’t what I’d expect from a steak house. The staff were really friendly, and it’s a lovely old building, but the room was dusty around the carpet edges and in the bathroom. The rain shower head was broken and sprayed water everywhere, while the cracked sink had a tap that just spat water out. I won’t be coming back.

The staff were lovely and friendly, but the kitchen experience was diabolical. On our first visit, we waited three hours for food before being told they’d forgotten about it. We returned two weeks later for a complimentary meal, waited 90 minutes for rib eye steaks, then got something completely different from what we’d ordered. The meat was so overcooked it looked like road kill scraped off the acle straight. I wouldn’t recommend it because of the kitchen staff’s incompetence.

There’s plenty of parking and the decor is nice, but it wasn’t quite what I expected. The food was nice enough, just nothing special, and it took a while to arrive. We joked they must be out catching the fish or heading the cattle. It was fairly quiet, so booking didn’t seem necessary. Prices felt a little above average.

It’s a well located pub with a big menu, a spacious beer garden and a welcome for dogs. The problem was the lack of draft drinks. I only wanted a quick pint, but nearly nothing was available on draft, which seems to be a common issue from other reviews. I ended up buying two bottles of Peroni and finding a pint glass to pour them into. It cost £11, so I won’t be in a hurry to do that again. Disappointing.
