We had a pretty mixed lunch. The soup and bread tasted nice, but I’d checked that the soup was vegan and the bread still came with butter. Its label was in French, so it wasn’t vegan or dairy-free. The soup was red and spicy, too, so I don’t think it was the asparagus and broccoli soup I’d been told it was. My friend’s sandwich came with chips added to our bill for £3, though they hadn’t asked for them. Another friend’s whitebait was bland, with tasteless red powder on top. Their order had been written down wrong, and a crab dish was served until they pointed out it wasn’t what they’d ordered. The toilet wasn’t clean, and around 2pm the log showed it hadn’t been cleaned since early morning. Some things tasted nice, but all three of us got something we hadn’t ordered or had specifically checked the meal wouldn’t contain.

We had a few room hiccups, but the staff acknowledged them and sorted everything quickly. One meal wasn’t quite up to standard either, and they were understanding and gave us a full refund for it. Parking is limited, though we managed to move the car closer to the hotel on day two. It’s a lovely, relaxed, well-run hotel for a quiet break. The Eggs Benedict was marvellous!

We chose to have dinner in the hotel restaurant for our tenth wedding anniversary. The food was great and the portions so generous I couldn’t finish my main, so I skipped dessert, though those sounded great too. Service was absolutely great, and so were the cocktails. Breakfast the next morning was delicious as well.

There’s a lovely atmosphere, friendly service and really good food. They have some great wines and are happy to suggest a match on the fly or from the menu. If you’re seated on that side of the restaurant, there’s a view too. I honestly couldn’t fault the experience.
