I’ve visited many times before, so this was disappointing. I asked the man behind the bar, who I believe is the manager, whether there was a drinks menu. He said there was one at each table, but there were menus at the bar too, which he didn’t point out. I later saw him find one easily for another customer. When I ordered, the server agreed to swap lemonade for tonic. While the drink was being made, the manager criticised the staff member in front of me. It made me feel awkward, and although he said I could have the drink, I felt uncomfortable and ordered something else instead. I suggested that policies would be better discussed with staff privately, away from customers. He said he didn’t need my advice, even though the situation had affected me as a paying customer. I told him his customer service was poor. He then mumbled under his breath and spoke negatively about me to a colleague. He was rude, argumentative and unprofessional. I also noticed customers served after me were treated much better, and it didn’t seem like we were treated equally. Helen has always been excellent and is a wonderful member of staff.

The rooms were quiet, and that was probably the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. I nearly asked for the mattress brand and model! I was here for a few days on a work trip and had a lovely time. There’s good parking, it’s a nice inn, and the staff are absolutely lovely. The food is delicious and feels homemade. I’ll try to stay here again when I’m back in the area.

Danny handled our complaint so well, and I can only commend him for how apologetic and accommodating he was. I admire the staff for doing their best, and my wedding meal turned out to be very memorable. We’d preordered a post-wedding Christmas meal for seven adults and three children. The food was good overall, but the kitchen seemed shambolic. Three adults missed key parts of their main courses: the confit duck with braised red cabbage and red wine jus came without both the cabbage and jus. They arrived after we asked, but by then the plates were empty. The children’s sides took an hour. Then dessert came, and one person got Christmas pudding with garlic cream sauce, which was meant for the cod main. Service and management were excellent despite the kitchen problems. Thanks, Danny, for dealing with everything so well.

We had a small child with us and she was made very welcome. Dogs are allowed in the main pub but not in the separate dining room, so we ate in the main area and were comfortable and never rushed. There’s plenty of seating, a good choice of beers, and an excellent lunch menu with seasonal specials. The food was good, and we had a pleasant afternoon. It’s a nice local pub, and we’d definitely recommend it and return if we’re in the area.

We stopped in for a quick lunch on a quiet Monday and had a warm welcome. Our server was an absolute treasure, so kind and friendly. The food was excellent quality and good value. Highly recommend it x
