East Cawledge Farm

Linda was a lovely host and suggested places for us to visit while we stayed in the barn for seven nights. The room was cleaned daily and had a very comfortable bed, a shower room, and tea, coffee and milk in a mini fridge. The area was peaceful, even though the bypass was only five minutes away. There were shops and a pub nearby, and Alnwick Castle was an easy half-hour walk.

The owner was a delight to deal with and couldn’t have been more helpful. We spent four nights at this lovely CL, which is handy for town and feels secluded despite being half a mile from the A1. There was very little traffic noise, and we enjoyed good local walks, including one to the beach at Alnmouth. My only reason for holding back a star was that the water tap wasn’t on the actual site, which is always awkward for motorhomes. It didn’t spoil our stay.

We rented the barn, a modern conversion with an en suite bedroom and lounge, furnished to a high standard. It was spotless. Linda’s service was second to none, with fresh towels every day and tea and coffee topped up. Alnwick is just minutes away.

A nice enough, back to basics C.L. There’s no toilet, shower, laundry or dishwashing facility, but the pitches have a good hard standing surface and electric hook-up that handled our kettle and microwave. The owner was friendly and gave us local information. It’s quiet overall, though there was some A1 background noise on weekdays, and a nearby venue played loud music on Friday evening. No railway noise. The other evenings were quiet. There isn’t much grass around the pitches, so I wouldn’t say it’s ideal for young children. The camping area is a bit more compact than most C.L.s, but it’s flat and easy to get on and off. If all pitches are occupied, a very large van might need a bit of shunting. When emptying cassettes, aim for the drain hole or you’ll be rounding things up with the hose. My family found that funny since they weren’t the ones dealing with it. You’ll like the site, and Alnwick is a nice town to see. You need a £1 parking disc for three hours of free parking in the disc zones.
