Ridgeway Cottage at Lovelady Shield

Breakfast was excellent, and the airy, comfortable rooms were a pleasure to stay in. It’s a lovely quiet hotel in a beautiful setting. Just bear in mind that they don’t serve alcohol. I’d definitely come back.

The en-suite room was spacious and comfortable, and the staff were attentive. Breakfast was great too, making for a very enjoyable overnight stay. It’s a traditional place with a cosy lounge, set among farms and hills in a rural, fairly secluded spot. There are walking paths and a river nearby, plus plenty of off-road parking. Just know there’s no lift to the upper floors.

We had a marvellous time here. The staff were wonderful, the location is fabulous, and it’s genuinely pet friendly. A great spot for a quiet, relaxing weekend or for anyone who enjoys hiking. I’d recommend a stay whether you bring pets or not.

We were staying for the week in Slaggyford and spotted Lovelady advertising afternoon tea on Facebook, so we called ahead and booked a table. From the warm welcome by a lovely gentleman to the three women looking after us in the dining area, the service was amazing. Tea and coffee arrived within seconds of us sitting down. One of the kitchen ladies checked our dietary needs and had meat options plated separately because one of us had asked for vegetarian afternoon tea. The food was lovely and presented beautifully. Fantastic food and phenomenal service, we felt treated like royalty. Highly recommend if you’re in the area, and thanks for such a friendly welcome. We’ll definitely go again!
