Altnaharra Hotel

A very tranquil spot. Getting here does mean a detour from my north coast route, but the drive there and back is fantastic. The food felt a bit pricey for what you get, so keep that in mind if you’re on a budget. I’d still highly recommend the place.

A lovely little hotel in the Highlands, well placed between Ben Hope and Ben Klibreck, which were about equally far away. I stayed here for climbing, and it worked well. The service was first class, dinner and breakfast were both good, and the rooms were fine. Having a bath after a day on the hills was a welcome bonus. Recommended for hikers in the area.

We’ve stayed here several times and keep coming back to a warm welcome, friendly staff, comfortable beds, clean rooms, and VERY good food. The Haggis Fritters with creamy whiskey sauce are fantastic. I’d encourage the Chef to make them an entree. We really enjoy the hotel’s old-fashioned feel, which hasn’t been wrecked by too much modernization. It wears its age beautifully, with comfortable lounges and books on the shelves. Altnaharra sits in a stunningly beautiful, quiet part of the north central Highlands that we love. We’ll be back.

The mountains looked spectacular from every side, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. When my partner and I visited, we were the only guests. Our host was the chief, an extremely friendly person who cooked us an amazing meal. If you’re in the Highlands, perhaps to climb Ben Hope, I’d highly recommend staying here. I plan to return.
