The rooms are gorgeous, with tasteful decor and furnishings throughout. The owners gave us such a warm welcome. There’s no bar, but they greet you with a complimentary dram of Whisky, which was a lovely touch. A perfect little retreat.

I didn’t stay overnight, but they kindly hosted a local Orienteering competition, so I got to explore the grounds. The forest, lochan and surrounding area are beautiful, with a healthy mix of species, trees of different ages, and all sorts of natural features. There are some stunning views and a few landmarks you don’t expect to come across. The old house looked charming from what I saw, and I was impressed to see electric car charging ports too.

My booking was cancelled because the hotel can no longer accept reservations. They said the new short-term let licensing introduced by the Scottish Government meant they had to close their Bed & Breakfast business, and told me they could no longer take my booking.

The Ardgye House B&B is just outside Elgin, tucked away but still handy for sightseeing around the area. There’s a massive lounge where you can relax and catch up with friends, a nice change from spending an afternoon in the pub.

My bedroom was huge and clean, and the breakfast was excellent. The B&B owner was lovely and friendly. I had a great stay.
