Premier Inn Bristol - Alveston

Very poor service. I asked reception to clean the room and left the room-cleaning tag on the door. When I came back, nothing had been done, and the tag was on the floor inside. A T-shirt was also stolen from my bag. I had to go back to reception late at night to ask for fresh towels. I’ve never had this happen at any hotel before.

The bedroom was fine, and the staff were decent and service was good. The hotel exterior looks tatty and run-down, and the bathroom was tatty too. The photo is of the pub across the car park from the hotel.

The room at the back was excellent, overlooking the cricket field, and we got a lovely welcome from the lady at Reception. She was a true gem. If only more hotels had staff like her. There’s lots of parking, but people need to leave enough space. When I was leaving, I couldn’t get to my car because the person next to me had left too little room. They eventually moved their vehicle, but did so with ill-grace. The Reception staff noticed the attitude. Breakfast was okay, though it was kept warm under heat lamps, so I skipped the eggs. The restaurant next door was pleasant, with average food, but it ticked the box for the evening.

On arrival the room was far too hot, with oil-filled radiators left on constantly. The air conditioning didn’t work, and the tiny window barely opened, so cooling the room was a challenge. Why not leave it cool and let people turn the heat up if they want? You can generate heat, but scientifically, it’s impossible to generate cold. The room was a shoebox, tired and dated, with lots of damaged furniture and random stains on the carpet and walls. It needs a massive overhaul. Reception were okay once they appeared, but their first priority was turning on their heater and moving it as close to them as possible before acknowledging us.
