Rothay Garth

We felt welcome as soon as we came through the door. The woman at reception was so warm and made us feel like the most important people there. Our room was cosy, fantastic, and had an extremely comfortable bed. Breakfast was lovely, with all the extras adding to it. We’ll certainly come back next time we’re in Ambleside.

It’s only a short walk to the town centre, and there’s plenty of parking. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and breakfast had a very good choice. I just had cereal and toast rather than a full English. I stayed one night on 19/11/25 as a solo traveller in double room no 15. I’m not sure if it’s classed as a small en-suite double, but it was just right for me. The bed was great, the room had plenty of tea, coffee, drinking water and hot chocolate, and it stayed toasty even though it was freezing outside. I didn’t hear any road noise. I’m really glad I booked this B&B for a shoulder-season trip to the Lakes.

The staff were so friendly and ready to help, and the guest house is within walking distance of everything in town. You can also stroll along the lake nearby. We had a lovely overnight stay at Rothay Garth in a quiet, very clean room, then a top-notch breakfast in the morning. There’s a good range of self-service cold items and drinks, plus hot dishes you can order at the table. Their Eggs Florentine was exceptional. I also tried a bit of my dad’s veggie sausage from the Full Vegetarian Breakfast and thought it was a sensation. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting Ambleside.

Breakfast was excellent, and so were the staff. We really enjoyed our first visit and the two nights in room 7. It’s a lovely, beautifully decorated superior room that’s dog friendly. It did seem a little dark without the main lights on. We had a small problem with the blind, but they sorted it quickly.
