The Old Vicarage

We finally made it here after wanting to stay for ages, and our lovely four-footed friend got an enormous welcome. It felt so relaxed. The beds were comfy, and the rooms spotlessly clean. We also enjoyed the pool, Jacuzzi and sauna. Because the hotel was full, we had to change rooms during our stay, but at least we were able to stay for the whole time. Big thanks to Matthew for sorting that out. Breakfast set us up for the day, with more on offer as well as the great Cumbrian Breakfast.

The hotel is an easy walk from Ambleside, with restaurants, shops and pubs nearby, and bus links to the rest of the Lake District. We were allowed to eat takeaway food in our room, and the staff provided cutlery. There’s lots to use around the hotel: books and magazines, a pool table in the downstairs communal area, and an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna open to hotel guests. The spacious rooms have roomy bathrooms with both a bath and shower. Breakfast has plenty of choice, including a vegetarian full English, and you can ask for a vegan version. There are extra tea bags, instant coffee and hot chocolate to take to your room, plus ice, and breakfast room service is available.

Our suite was lovely, and the whole place felt like a home from home. It’s very dog friendly: breakfast was brought to our room each day so we could stay with our dog. Staff were so lovely, and there’s a spot to take off your boots and towels to dry dogs before going inside. We really liked the pool area and the fab jacuzzi. We’d highly recommend it and will be back.

Just a two-minute walk from the heart of Ambleside, the Old Vicarage is a lovely place to stay. The rooms are great, and the pool, hot tub and sauna were just what we needed after a long walk. Staff were very friendly and always happy to help, and both the range and quality of breakfast were superb. We’d definitely stay again.
