The small drying room was much appreciated during our very wet week, and the cottage had everything we needed, including a well-equipped kitchen and a comfy bed. It’s a great base for walks straight from the door, with three good pubs in walking distance: Brittania Inn, The Wainwright Inn and, a little farther off, The three Shires. The dog loved it too!

We ate at the Britannia Inn, Wainwrights and the Ambleside Inn, and all served great food. The area is beautiful and makes a fantastic base. Townfoot Cottage was warm and welcoming, with a fully stocked kitchen, an amazing shower and very comfortable bedrooms. We had a small problem with the electricity one evening, but Alun had it sorted first thing the next morning. Couldn’t have asked for better service. We’ll definitely return as soon as we can.

Elterwater is a brilliant place to stay. Our cottage was quiet, and sheep wandering around outside made it feel wonderfully relaxing. The pub is only 200yds away, and the little shop up the road in Chapel Stile is remarkably well stocked. Inside, the kitchen has a full range of cooking utensils, the beds are comfy and there’s plenty of hot water. We booked a week as a couple and really enjoyed it. The owner was courteous and very supportive, and returned our deposit promptly. What’s not to like?

Alun was quick and helpful with texts, emails and any questions we had, so we couldn’t have asked for more. Townfoot cottage is warm and cosy, and the location is brilliant, with a great pub and cafe a two-minute walk down the road. The scenery is amazing. Ambleside is a nice distance away, and Grasmere is within walking distance if you fancy it. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend it to friends and family. We’re planning another trip back next year.

We walked straight from Townfoot Cottage and found some wonderful routes nearby. After a long walk, having the Britannia Inn so close for drinks and good food was a real bonus, and we loved lighting the log burner in the evening. The cottage is beautifully and tastefully furnished, with such a homely feel that I didn’t want to leave. It’s in a stunning location, and we’ll definitely return.
