OYO Eagle House Hotel, St Leonards Hastings

The place was clean and the staff clearly made an effort, even though some seemed to have limited English. For what we paid, the rooms and everything else were as expected. Still, I wouldn’t stay again because of the cannabis smell in the downstairs hall. It hung around all weekend, and I couldn’t tell whether the hotel was being used by the council for emergency accommodation, but that was the impression the smell and atmosphere gave me. There was also a very loud party. My family could hear every word upstairs, while the noise was more muffled on the second floor where I was with my four-year-old. If we’d been upstairs, he wouldn’t have slept. Getting in was awkward for my nan: there’s no handrail by the entrance and no lift inside. We’d booked somewhere cheap, so we hadn’t expected much, but she still struggled a bit.

The quick, friendly check-in got us off to a good start. This is an old 19th century mansion in Hastings, UK, now converted into 24 rooms. It’s been fairly updated and was clean, quiet and comfortable. There’s free parking out front and breakfast is included. A really good stay, I’d recommend OYO Eagle House Hotel.

It’s about a ten minute walk downhill to the seafront, though the return trip is all uphill. The rooms could use an update, but ours was clean and tidy. Breakfast was fine, with the small catch that you have to choose your eating time the day before. I’d stay again if I’m in the area.

We booked at the last minute after getting our Air Bnb dates mixed up, and were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, neat and really nice, with a lovely view over the garden. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the included breakfast was good. The front looks a little run down, but inside it’s clean and tidy. I’d stay again.
