Sherwood Guest House

The location is lovely, and the old-fashioned breakfast was adequate. But the place smelled of cigarette smoke everywhere, even in my non-smoking room. My room had an unclean bin and a manky kettle with water still inside. The woman running it looked as if our presence was a bother. It needs a proper overhaul, and until that happens, I wouldn't stay again.

Jim and Jeanette were friendly and welcoming without being overbearing, and Jim has a good sense of humour. The room was clean and comfortable enough, with fine facilities, and breakfast had everything you need. The location is handy for the seafront and within a 15-20 minute walk of Hastings Centre. Checkout at 10am is early, but not a major issue. I thought this was a perfectly decent, good-value B&B. We stayed in a double room with an ensuite at the top of the property, overlooking the garden. I'd rate it four stars, but I'm giving five in the rating system to balance out some unfair reviews below. I think it's awful that someone with a grudge can do so much damage to a place's reputation.

We stayed one night in the family room, which had more than enough space for the three of us. It was clean and tidy, with tea and coffee facilities. Jeanette greeted us on arrival and was really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very nice, with lots of choices and options to suit everyone's dietary needs. A lovely stay, we'd come again.

The single room was very small but clean and comfortable, and breakfast was good. Staff could use a bit of training, even just saying hello, thank you and goodbye would be a start. At £40, would I stay again? Probably not. The decor is very old and needs some TLC.
