What a great find. The pub is simply beautiful, and the food was wonderful with generous portions. My husband’s mixed game casserole was just as delicious. I had the calves liver, thickly cut and pink as ordered, with crispy bacon and rich, shiny onion gravy. The seasonal vegetables were fresh, and there was a surprisingly good selection. Kudos to the chef!

We loved our stay at this delightful dog-friendly inn in a beautiful setting. We had dinner, joined the weekly quiz and stayed one night with bed and breakfast. The welcome was warm and friendly, and everything we ate was excellent in both quality and quantity. Our room was peaceful and very spacious, spotless, with a comfy bed, cosy bedding, a generous drinks tray and a hot, powerful shower.

We stayed for three nights again this year, between Christmas and New Year, while visiting local sights and people. The location is great, and it’s clearly popular, so booking is recommended. Food and service were excellent, and it was nice to chat with the landlord at a quieter breakfast. The bathroom in our room had recently been refurbished.

We only came for lunch today and didn’t stay overnight, but we’ll return. The service, menu, ambience and warmth were just what you’d expect from a traditional British country inn. There are other dishes we want to try, so next time we’ll come in the evening and stay too. Thanks to the staff at Hatchet.
