We had a cosy room with a verandah overlooking the countryside, and binoculars on the windowsill were a nice touch. The room was cleaned on our second day and the refreshments topped up, which surprised us. It’s very dog friendly, with treats and a water station, and the location is good for Bath. We stopped here on our way to Cornwall and would stay again. The co-owners and staff were very friendly and attentive despite being busy. It’s a large inn with lots of nooks and crannies, extended in keeping with the original building. The locals were friendly too. We enjoyed the good food and breakfast, the well stocked bar’s real ales, and the big beer garden. There was even a quirky box of reading spectacles on the bar for customers borrowing them to read the menus.

The wood fires make the place especially warm in winter, and the friendly service adds to the welcoming feel. We usually struggle to fit in all three courses, but I definitely recommend the oggies. We first heard about this place years ago, and it’s now our regular spot for a quality meal. The menu is great, with a proper specials board, and the food is always cooked just right. We travel from Bristol, and it's well worth the trek.

Love this pub. The food is fresh, hot, delicious and comes out in good time, with amazing weekend roasts and vegan and veggie options too. There’s loads to choose from on the menu, plus a great drinks selection. Great service and a cosy pub with everything you want and more.

The pub itself is lovely and the location is great, which makes the food such a shame. We had three meals and all of them were diabolically bad. The prices have gone up by a third since the cook and a staff member took over. My lasagne was a tiny ramekin, dried up with hard pasta round the edges, and microwaved to an inch of its life. At £17.95, it came with salad instead of chips. The starters were tiny too, made with substandard ingredients, and started at £9.25. We take more care making our parrots' food than this chef put into our meals. Even the frozen chips were hard in the middle. Could it have been worse? 🤦

I live nearby and go to this pub all the time because I love it. It’s cosy and atmospheric in winter, while the big garden and little kids' play area make it great in summer. The food is always good, and the drink has been good too since they put pale ale on tap.
