We had a lovely stay. The room was a good size, tidy, well set up, and had a nice view. Communication was great and much appreciated. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was delicious, but book ahead because it’s very popular. Breakfast came with the stay and was well worth it. The hotel has loads of character, too. One small suggestion: instructions for the TV would help. We wanted a quiet evening watching something after dinner, but had to ask the very busy bar lady which button changed the channels. We wouldn’t have worked it out ourselves, LOL. I’d definitely recommend this Hotel. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The location is stunning, one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland, and that’s the only reason this gets two stars instead of one. We paid £240 a night and left feeling taken for granted. The room was tired and poorly maintained, with stains on the table, make-up marks on the door frames, and a broken shower door. The TV was tiny and not smart, with no iPlayer or streaming. At that price in 2026, that just isn’t good enough. The website gives an impression that doesn’t match the stay. Breakfast was another letdown. The portions were almost comically small, and my scrambled egg looked like it used less than one egg. One staff member was covering the whole service and was clearly overwhelmed. That wasn’t his fault, it was a management decision. We asked for a refund for the second night because of the gap between what was advertised and what we experienced. The manager refused, citing the non-refundable booking. It left such a bitter taste that we checked out and left instead of staying the second night. At £260 a night, the rooms need serious investment, and guests deserve better when they raise legitimate concerns. Do your research before booking.

I arrived hoping to escape the rain and cold, and left completely charmed. It’s an old hotel, but has a cozy warmth that stands up to the port, damp, and cool weather. The rooms are modest, clean, and warm, with what you need plus nice little extras like biscuits and tea. I was oddly delighted to have a physical key, for nostalgic reasons. The attached bar was lively, with laughter and delicious food. I’m so glad I spent the night there. It filled me with warmth and joy.

I loved sitting with my coffee and watching the world go by. The view alone is worth the visit, and the food was great too. The live band on Friday was a treat.

Breakfast was a real highlight, with a great choice of food and service that was friendly and accommodating. The meal portions were huge, and the food came out reasonably quickly once we ordered. The room was fairly priced, the bed was comfy, and it’s a great hotel in a lovely location. Dinner service was the one disappointment. We waited five minutes just to get menus, then another ten before ordering a drink. Nearly half an hour had passed before our drinks arrived. It wasn’t especially busy and there seemed to be four staff on, so I’m not sure why it took so long. Nearby tables also sat uncleaned for ages after people left. Still, we had a great stay and really enjoyed ourselves, with dinner service being a slight letdown.
