Armagh City Hotel

Our group had a great base for exploring Armagh and the surrounding area. The rooms were comfortable, excellent, and nicely presented, and the hotel staff were incredibly helpful throughout our stay. As founder of The Celtic Way tour company, I know how much work goes into organising groups, so it means a lot to stay somewhere that truly cares about its guests. We appreciated the warm welcome and would gladly recommend the hotel to people travelling around Northern Ireland, especially on group tours.

The competition venue downstairs was spotless, spacious, and really nice. I was there last week for an Irish Dance Competition and had an amazing time. Staff were lovely and accommodating, and the rooms felt very roomy and comfortable. There are lots of shops nearby too, and the surrounding area is nice. I'll definitely come back.

We only stayed one night, but the big, cosy room was lovely and warm, and the place had been decorated nicely for Halloween. The starters were good. The lasagna was about a 5/10, since all I could taste was the mince, and the cocktails were very sugary and didn't taste like the real ones.

I've stayed here umpteen times over the years, so this last visit was a real disappointment. When we don't book directly through the hotel, it feels like we get the less nice rooms. Ours had a dirty carpet, a broken bathroom lock, and a butter knife under the bed. The TV history hadn't been cleared either, which wasn't appropriate for children. Molly at reception was very pleasant, and breakfast was lovely, though a young man came to take our plates before we'd finished. The toast machine still never works, as it hasn't on all my visits, so I think it's time for an upgrade. Lunch and dinner in the bar were nothing special. Our toasties came filled with peppers and mayo, which we'd never asked for and which weren't listed on the menu. Some of the staff, particularly the young girls, seemed uninterested and walked past us several times before a man came to show us to our seats. The food was very expensive, and £11.00 cocktails are ridiculous. After this stay, I don't think I'll return.
