The biggest upset was how some staff reacted when my daughter became overwhelmed and had a meltdown. She has autism and was wearing ear defenders because of sensory sensitivities. I was already finding it hard to manage the situation as her parent, and the staring and looks made me feel she was being judged as a naughty child instead of struggling with sensory overload. I hope the staff can show more understanding and compassion towards families with children who have additional needs, so they don't feel like a burden when dining out. The service had other problems too. We were seated without being given a drinks menu, then waited quite a while to order. My partner's and my meals came before the children's food, so I had to ask where it was. I feel children's meals should come first. Desserts took a long time as well, and the children were getting frustrated. The turkey and beef on my plate were dry and chewy, though the rest was not too bad. My partner liked the meat in his pie, but its crust was undercooked. For the price, the experience didn't match the cost, and it's not somewhere I'd return.

Our works meal out was for seven people, including one vegan, and they catered for them without any fuss. They even made a vegan Yorkshire pudding especially. The pie, fish and chips, and carvery were all fantastic. Vegetables were cooked just right, there was a great choice and plenty of gravy, so nobody will leave The Tap House hungry. The meal and service were fantastic, and we really appreciated the hospitality. We'll definitely be regulars. Highly recommend!

The place was buzzing on a Thursday evening when we came for a family birthday. Three of us had the carvery, which was really nice. It's served to your table rather than being a typical help-yourself carvery, but asking for more of the fantastic cheesy leeks was no problem. Our waitress was great and knew a lot about the area and the brewery next door. A great meal, recommended.

The Sunday carvery came with plenty of food and tasted really nice, though it was table service. I expected a carvery where you serve yourself and just have the meat carved. I chose chicken and beef, then was charged £5 extra for the chicken without that being properly explained. The staff were about 16 years old and seemed to know little or nothing about the beers or food options. Still, the service was good, and my server was really nice. They also pack people in very tightly.

We stopped for dinner on a Tuesday while passing through, and were surprised that the carvery was on. My fiancée and I chose it, and could eat in the bar with our dog. It was one of the best carveries we've had, maybe the best. The meat was tender, every part was cooked just right, and the vegetables were delicious. Generous portions too. It reminded me of my mum's or gran's proper home cooking. The service was friendly and accommodating, and we sat beside a real log fire.
