The Mendip Inn

The front of house staff were lovely, which is what brought this up to two stars. There weren’t any ales on tap, so I had lager. My wife wanted medium steak, but was told it could only be pink or well done. She chose well done, though it came out too overdone for her and salty. My chicken and ham pie was mostly crust with little meat, and the red cabbage and greens were mushy. I should’ve paid attention to earlier reviews.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but this visit made me feel I should. My wife and I stopped for a couple of quick drinks and met an owner with no personality or manners. The table was filthy, with flies and wasps around it. Thank goodness we only had drinks and didn’t eat.

We only stopped in while passing for food and drinks. There was plenty of space, the food and drink were good, and the staff were very polite and courteous. They add a tip to the bill, which I don’t like because I prefer to leave one myself.

We got caught in a snowstorm and took a chance on finding somewhere to stay. We were given a double en suite room with a TV, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The pub had a warm fire, a good range of beers and food with some vegan options.
