The staff were welcoming and happy to help, and the rooms were clean, comfortable and had everything you could need. We’d planned to eat there one of our two nights, but the short ribs on the specials menu were so good we went back for dinner the second night too. One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. We only had the continental breakfast, which was great too. I think the cooked breakfast might have been too much for me.

Delicious food, proper tables, cloth napkins, friendly staff and cold drinks. The locally produced beef was great, the fish was fresh from Aberdeen, and the Sunday Roast was spot on and full of flavour. One of the best pub restaurants in all of Scotland. I’d suggest calling ahead for a reservation, as it can get quite busy in this delightful ambiente.

The only small issue was that our room was cold when we arrived. The staff member who showed us up found us an extra heater, though it might be worth putting the heating on for a while before check-in. We’d booked dinner in advance, and despite the restaurant being busy, service was great and the food excellent. The room, number 1, was modern, clean and had everything we needed, including a comfy super king-size bed and a large bathroom with probably the best double shower we’ve found in a hotel room. The bar had the country pub feel we expected, with a roaring log burner and a great range of beers and spirits. The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially the young lady who showed us to our room. We booked the overnight stay and evening meal on a personal recommendation, and the pub, rooms and food lived up to it. We’d definitely stay again, and since we don’t live too far away, we’ll be back to the restaurant soon.

The locals and staff made us feel welcome, and the food was just right. We visited from the States for a meal in July 2025, and I loved this pub. It’s exactly the kind of small-town Scottish local I picture. Cheers!

We came back a second time because the meals were so good. The first night we tried the pie and salmon; the next, the chicken burger, scampi, and cod mac and cheese. Everything was fantastic, and the quality beat anything else we tried around the area. Proper home-cooked food, lovely staff, and it’s dog friendly too, which helped make the decision for us.
