The Old Chandlery

Avoch Harbour runs boat trips, and you might get lucky and spot dolphins or seals. For food, the chip shop does pretty nice fish and chips if you don’t fancy cooking. The Co-op has ice cream, lollies and, most importantly, slushies! We stayed in July 2023 after finding a great deal on a third-party booking app. The reviews looked fab, and booking was easy. The hosts replied quickly whenever we got in touch. Avoch is a small fishing village with a working harbour, not far from Inverness, and Chanonry Point/Fortrose is about a 10-minute drive away and easy to find. The ground-floor accommodation looks onto the picturesque harbour. The road outside is busy and noisy, and you can hear traffic with the windows open, but it didn’t put us off staying. Inside, it was nicely furnished, clean and cosy, with everything we needed. There was a lovely hamper of local treats waiting for us, and the honey was amazing. When it’s in season, you can get it from the cafe down the road. Parking is across the road by the toilets, which are never open. The person staying upstairs parked right beside the dining room window, which was off-putting because it isn’t a parking space and blocked the light. The bathroom is quite small. I’m larger and struggled a bit to move around, and as I’m disabled, getting in and out of the bath was tricky. There’s also a tiny extra loo behind the laundry area. I’d highly recommend staying here.

This comfy home away from home is close to lots of fantastic places to visit. I love it here and hope to come back soon.
