The steaks were juicy and cooked nicely, and the sauces were lovely, but the fat was chewy and I left half my steak. We also had a prawn cocktail that was average and mushrooms in cream sauce that amounted to a bowl of delicious sauce with about three small, thin slices of mushroom. There was one piece of bread cut in half, so I gave my half to my partner for the sauce. We’d hoped to find a local restaurant we could walk to during our week nearby, instead of driving. When we arrived, I asked if my phone could be charged after the long drive because I needed it to pay, and the waitress kindly helped. After that, the service was poor. No one showed us to a seat or told us to wait, even though staff saw us standing around unsure what to do. We picked a table, then were asked to move, presumably because it was reserved. A sign or being seated would have avoided the confusion. The new spot behind the entrance door was very cramped. I watched the host chat with other diners, ask about their journeys and meals, and offer top-up drinks. We weren't asked once how things were, whether we wanted another drink, or even how the meal was at the end. The server just put the card machine down and walked away, without a goodbye. We usually tip more than the expected £30+, but this left me annoyed. I wondered if we were being judged for being younger, though I can't know. The restaurant wasn't busy, either. We planned to get dessert to take away, but by then I just wanted to go home. I hope it was an off day, but seeing the attention everyone else got made it feel like we were treated differently. We'll give an extra tip to a local food place that has been amazing.

That homemade sticky toffee pudding was so light it could win awards. My wife had the monkfish curry, and I went for the venison pie. During our whole trip around Scotland, that dinner stood out as the best meal we had there. The atmosphere and service were excellent, too. If you're doing the NC500, don't miss this restaurant. Thanks for a lovely evening.

The food was on another level over our four-day stay, with excellent traditional dishes and plenty of seafood caught locally. Robb, the manager and Head Chef, was attentive throughout, coming out of the kitchen each meal to talk with guests. Debbie was also friendly and provided excellent waiting service. The bar has an extensive whisky selection, and Robb was happy to advise us on the choices. We arrived late at night and still got the warmest welcome. The area is breathtakingly beautiful, and our spacious, clean and comfortable room had stunning views. The surroundings and the hospitality blew us away. I can't recommend this place highly enough. All in all, it was an excellent stay, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

We came in unexpectedly after seeing another Google Maps review. The restaurant was fully booked, but we were early, around 18:00, and reasonably hungry. The chef suggested we order straight away so there'd be plenty of time for a proper dinner, and it worked out beautifully. We chose the daily specials and a lovely Marlborough. Everything was prepared to a Michelin-star-competitor standard. A tasty, lovely, cooperative restaurant in a great location with nice prices. Make a detour for it! We'll definitely come back next time we're in Scotland. 😊😉🥰👌🥂

Be careful when booking here. I received this message: “Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we are unable to accommodate you on the 8th of September. Therefore we have cancelled your booking with us. We are very sorry for any inconveniences this has caused.”
