The H Boutique Hotel

We ate downstairs and everything we ordered was delicious, from the stone baked pizzas, breads and oils and pâté to the homemade chunky chips, children’s meals and wine. The staff were all lovely and helpful, a real credit to the hotel. We’ll be back! One request: please update the website with the current prices. We spent two nights in the H Suite at the Boutique, and it was a treat. There was loads of room, an enormous bed, a dressing area, and a beautiful bath. The central location was great, and parking worked out once we figured out the car parks. We could hear noise from the cheese and wine bar below, but it stopped at a reasonable time.

That bed was so comfortable, and the room was spacious and just right. We slept better than we ever have at a Hilton. The hotel is right in the main area, close to the river and shops, and we’d definitely return. The staff were amazing. They helped me arrange a birthday surprise for my husband with balloons, cakes and chocolates, and the receptionist made sure we had everything we needed. Walking in to see the balloons and a happy birthday banner was such a lovely surprise. I’d recommend the hotel.

We loved staying in Bakewell and will be back next year to explore more of the Peak District. Our two nights were mainly for a visit to Chatsworth House, and the location worked really well. The 'H' has been the best of the boutique hotels we’ve tried over the past few years. Our room was spotless and showed no wear. There were thoughtful extras, including a tray for boots and shoes by the door and complimentary slippers, which you don’t often get at smaller hotels. Hotel manager David was especially helpful with local knowledge and had plenty of entertaining stories. Breakfast costs extra, but booking it was easy, there was a good choice, and hotel residents get a discount. We also ate in the restaurant one night. Booking was straightforward, and the food was very decent and good value.

The breakfast at the hotel’s coffee shop was very nice, and hotel guests get 10% off. The generous full English with a drink was £15 each. I’d recommend the café as well as the hotel. Our room was lovely, with a very comfortable bed and a nice bathroom stocked with White Company toiletries. I gave the room four stars because I’d expected a Nespresso or similar coffee machine. Check-in was friendly, but no one was at reception when we checked out. The place isn’t staffed overnight, though there’s a number to call if anything comes up, so I gave four stars for that too. Parking in the car park opposite is first come, first served. It’s £1 from 6pm to 8am, then daily charges apply. For 3pm to noon, we paid £11, so I’d suggest downloading the parking app. We found a space easily, but it was low season.
