Our Valentine’s meal at Taylor’s House was a real disappointment. We got there about half an hour before the booking and asked if we could have a drink in the bar first. They took us behind the main bar to a small back bar. After our drinks, we were seated in a dining area that felt more like a café than a restaurant, not the atmosphere we’d expected for Valentine’s night. My partner’s £32 steak was meant to be medium-rare but came much closer to rare, and for that price it was shocking to get just one onion ring on the plate, with nothing else. I had the katsu curry, which was underwhelming too. The chicken tasted like frozen supermarket chicken, and there was barely any sauce, not even a tablespoon. Music seemed to be coming from a phone and kept crackling loudly all evening. If we’d known, we would’ve stayed home. We won’t be back.

We all loved our family dinner last night. It’s a cosy gastrobar, and we were lucky enough to get a table by the log fire. Every course was delicious and beautifully presented, with the baked Alaska a real standout. They’ve thought through all the little details, and we had a lovely time.

The service was easygoing and friendly, and none of our servers minded our requests. The barman was a gem too, making me an off-menu cocktail. The food was so good that we’d happily order the same meal all over again. We started with some fantastic dishes, especially the sriracha chicken thigh, which we all wanted a taste of. The boys went for steak, one wanting it very well done and the other medium. Both arrived perfectly cooked and rested. My market fish was spot on too, especially with the extra side of summer greens. And you can’t go past the Tailors Baked Alaska for dessert. It never disappoints, though I’m sure any of the desserts would’ve been a good choice. We don’t get to Tailors often, but every time we do we wonder why we don’t make the trip more. The Friday night menu was concise but had something for everyone. I’d go back tonight, and if they offered calorie-free desserts, I’d buy a season ticket. Thanks for a great meal.

We went for an anniversary dinner. The food was great and the staff were attentive, with impeccable service, though it was a little expensive. I can’t fault the visit, but the price might put some people off. I’d recommend a visit, especially for the Chateaubriand.
