The cooked breakfast was made to order and very good, and the couple running the place were lovely. It was clean, and we were greeted by the host, who explained breakfast and showed us to our room. The house has its own decor style throughout. It’s quiet, a few miles outside the village and about five miles from Balmoral. We found the double bed small. The bathroom is sectioned off within the bedroom and has a WC and shower. Water ran slowly, which the host said was due to the area and outside pipes. The sink is in the bedroom. A little TLC would help, like oiling the bathroom door and sticking the wallpaper back down.

We’d definitely come back. The couple were welcoming, the room was very clean, and breakfast was tasty. The shower room felt nicely updated, though it could use a holder for toiletries. The few things that weren’t quite right were minor and manageable for our one night.

A peaceful, quiet setting with a warm welcome and a lovely breakfast. The photos look a little dated, but don’t let that put you off. The bathroom was new, and everything was spotless.

I visited this place more than fifty years ago, and it was amazing even then. I’d love to go back.
