We stayed in one of the recently upgraded pods, which now have a kitchen sink and a beautiful bathroom. The owners were friendly and helpful, and the views across to Rathlin Island and Scotland were fantastic. It was a really peaceful stay. We hope to come back soon.

The owners are lovely and work very hard to feed, water and entertain their guests. The site is really well located, and having a pub there is a bonus since taxis can be hard to come by. After about 10-10:30, it gets wonderfully quiet. The playpark is okay. The toilet and shower block is dated, with some damaged or faulty fittings and tiles and other things stored there. For the price, I had a few minor gripes. There’s no water tap at the touring van pitches, so remember your barrel handle. Bring a 15m HU lead too, in case your pitch is a long way from the power outlet. There’s nothing to control vehicles coming in or out, and the site is on a main road, so keep an eye on your weans and use a hitchlock or wheel lock on your van. The showers cost £1 for eight minutes, which feels a little excessive after paying £47 a night. I’d expect showers to be included for touring vans at that price, though charging for them makes more sense if camping is cheap. It’s not the ritz, but it’s definitely not the pits either.

We stayed at Glenmore for five nights, with four adults, including parents and grandparents, and three children aged 10, 8 and 4. The staff and owners were easy to deal with when checking in and whenever they were around the site. We camped near the lake. The locked gates were a blessing with young children, and the view was beautiful once the sea fog lifted. The nearest toilet was clean and its sensor light worked, though the facilities are clearly a work in progress. There was no hot water, but that didn’t bother us. A hook on the back of the door for coats and things would be useful. We washed dishes at the tent, so can’t comment on the sink and washing facilities by the caravans. We didn’t use the playground because it’s close to the main road and has no proper fence, and we kept the children within sight. We tried the showers once, but having to keep pressing the button after paying £1 was a faff, and the water pressure wasn’t great, though that can be hard to avoid in the countryside. We really enjoyed our stay at Glenmore and its proximity to National Trust sites and Ballycastle. On a rainy day, Ally cats soft play in Coleraine was handy too. We’d stay again and wish the owners all the best.

For £40 a night, I expected a bit more. Some pitches have good views, though others don’t, and the facilities are very basic. We also got the feeling our dog wasn’t very welcome when we checked in.

At £40 a night, this was easily the worst site we’ve stayed at. The van pitches were a mess, the grass was overgrown, and the surrounding areas were dirty and broken up. There were potholes all over. The toilets and showers were old, cold and not especially clean, and there was no soap at the sinks or anything to dry your hands. They were pushy about cash payments too. I can’t think of a single positive. Stay at one of the other main sites nearby and save your money.
