We paid £260 for a thoroughly awful family meal, and I wouldn't eat here again. Seven of us dined on Saturday 10th January for a New Year family meal, and we were rushed to order within five minutes because the chef was leaving at pm. The duck smelled repulsive and seemed air fried, with soggy skin. My champ arrived ten minutes later, cold, unseasoned instant potato. The orange sauce tasted like cough mixture. A fellow guest's steak was dry, flavourless, and seemed air fried too. Someone else couldn't eat her chilli chicken because it was smothered in supermarket sweet chilli sauce. The salad was dry, limp, tasteless, and had no dressing. The tea came in old, dirty pots and cups, and when my young children asked for ketchup, they were given plastic takeaway sachets. The food was disgusting and disgraceful for a supposedly 4 star hotel.

The brunch was delicious, with huge portions for a great price. The staff were friendly, polite, and went out of their way to accommodate my mother's needs. I haven't stayed overnight, but friends and relatives have, and they couldn't fault it. They mentioned comfortable beds, clean rooms, welcoming staff, and a great breakfast.

The food had plenty of choice and was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were excellent quality and always brought with a smile. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and happy to help with anything I needed. A fantastic stay from beginning to end, highly recommended.

Darren at reception was kind and very efficient, and the property itself is beautiful. If you like the Jane Austen/Bridgerton aesthetic, you'll love the look of the place. The food was a different story. Breakfast was the same each day but came out differently every time, and they didn't take the orders properly. I assume different cooks were involved, but they really need to agree on how each dish is made and keep it consistent. I wouldn't feel confident recommending the food when you can't know what to expect. Such a shame.

I've stayed at the Belmont for work in the area several times over the last few years. It's handy for the Boulevard, and town is an easy walk away. The staff are always pleasant, and breakfast was lovely on my most recent visit (Jan 26). The communal spaces and main bedroom areas are clean and nicely decorated, and the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms are where the place lets itself down, despite excellent hot water and pressure, especially for an old building. On my last two stays they were moldy, and the extractor fan didn't come on, which probably doesn't help. In room 9, the shower head was grubby and fixed in place, frustrating if you don't want to wet your hair. The taps were plumbed the wrong way, with cold on the left, and the handles turned the wrong way too. I had to hang a towel over the long mirror in that bathroom. Its position needs serious thought, and the fixtures look like they belong in a museum. The paintwork has been updated, though. The fire alarm woke me at 1 am on 29th Jan, and nobody explained it the next morning. :(
