The food was pretty standard, and the burger wasn't great. No one checked back with us, either. We were also asked to pay for our drinks while standing at the bar and deciding what to eat, even though the bar was empty. I understand that can happen when it's busy, but it wasn't. The service around the pate starter was especially disappointing. It came with one slice of bread, and when we asked for more, the waitress went to check and never came back. I asked who I assume was the manager, and she said she hadn't realised I wanted to order more. It felt unnecessarily tight and condescending, as if the first waitress hadn't wanted to say we'd have to pay for another slice. For 10p to the kitchen, they could have brought another slice, or served less pate or more toast in the first place. I've managed restaurants for years, so I know how things can be, but this visit had very little hospitality. It was our first time popping in, and we won't bother again. We didn't stay in the rooms, so sorry I had to rate those too.

The pub had a lovely atmosphere, and the staff were friendly. We enjoyed the chips and having a drink, but the special burger wasn't nice and tasted microwaved, which was a shame.

The restaurant has a good menu, and the accommodation is clean and comfortable. It's a great place, run by a super friendly family.

The food was really delicious, and we'd definitely come back. We shared the platter for two to start. For mains, I had the 10 oz rump steak with peppercorn sauce, while my wife had the mozzarella and smoked haddock fishcakes. We ended with rhubarb crumble and sticky toffee pudding.
