The decor and atmosphere here are beautiful, and the staff were impeccable and very accommodating. Our waitress Diana was especially lovely and helpful. But the steaks were a real letdown. My partner and I ordered them medium, and both came out well done. We sent them back, then they arrived almost rare, with much of the meat bloody. I wouldn’t normally eat steak like that, but we didn’t want to complain a second time. I left some of mine because it got bloodier as I went, and my partner wasn’t happy either. At £30 for a sirloin, I expected better. I’d been a regular before the brewery takeover and wanted to try the food, though I was a bit wary after seeing the menu changes at the Tempest and being disappointed with my meal there. Another couple near us also said they’d had a bad meal. I hope this doesn’t damage a place that had a great reputation for years. The brewery needs to sort the food out, or it could lose loyal customers. I do like the place and will return at some point.

We stayed overnight and found the staff friendly and professional. Dinner and breakfast both had a wide choice, and the food was carefully prepared, cooked and presented. Our room was in The Barn, a separate building behind the main one. It was very clean and well set up, with a comfortable bed and all the facilities we needed. The shower room was high quality too.

We’ll be back. The food was the best we’ve had in ages, and the staff made us feel very welcome. The hotel is new, beautifully designed, and has a great location. The room and amenities were fabulous. A real find.

We only moved to the area recently, so booked lunch to give the place a try. I enjoyed the fish main course, dessert and drinks, and the staff were really friendly. I heard it had been refurbished recently. I’d love to come back for a Sunday roast.

The team couldn’t have done more for us. I got there 20 minutes after breakfast had finished because of a terrible hangover, and they still sorted me out with some food. Absolute heroes. The room was great and the bed comfortable. It’s one of the few places that still cares about customer service. A brilliant experience.
