Premier Inn Barnstaple

The staff were so helpful and friendly, always welcoming and ready to assist with anything we needed. Our room was comfortable, the hotel was spotless, and everything felt well cared for. We had a lovely weekend at Premier Inn Barnstaple and would happily stay again.

Staff at reception and in the breakfast restaurant were kind and very helpful. The location worked well for Chivenor and the town centre, parking was free, the bed was comfortable, and the bedding was clean. The shower pressure was unreal, and breakfast was freshly cooked. But Room 16 felt tired and run down, with mould and cobwebs on the ceiling, and stains on the sofa. Builders were making a lot of noise just outside my window after 7pm. At breakfast, I stuck to the floor by the juice table, and the carpet was actually black with dirt. It was off putting. I paid £120, which felt far too high for a room worth £75. They’re building an extension and doing a refurb, but the online photos may not match what you get.

Reception was excellent when we arrived, with quick check in and clear directions to our room. We ate in the restaurant too, and the service there was spot on. It’s a shame we couldn’t sleep for more than an hour at a time. Children ran up and down the corridor, and there was a lot of noise from an adjoining room. I couldn’t tell exactly where it was coming from, maybe downstairs. After driving six and a half hours, my son and I just wanted a good night’s sleep before doing the return trip. We would come back. This was a poor stay because of inconsiderate guests, not the hotel staff.

The rooms and hotel looked good, as expected. The restaurant let things down a bit over Easter weekend: they had no rice at all, so May meals on the menu weren’t available. It was messy under the tables and didn’t seem ready for how busy it was. I put that down to staffing rather than the staff themselves, who were great.
