OYO Hotel Majestic

For £35, my small single room was a bargain and it did what I needed for one night. It was in a handy location, quiet, clean and quick to warm up. The bathroom was spotless, there was enough tea and coffee, and I slept well. The building needs refurbishment and the room wasn’t glamorous, but the receptionist was lovely and explained everything clearly. Reception and the bar are open around the clock.

We were four people in two twin rooms, and this is a good affordable choice for a casual stay. Breakfast was good for the price, and although a vegetarian full English wasn’t on the menu, they can make one with veggie sausages if you ask. There’s a pool table downstairs that’s a bit worn but still usable. The rooms could use updating, while the shower had very hot water and strong pressure.

The receptionist was lovely, and the stained glass window was nice, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. We were on the second floor with no lift, and carrying my case up all those stairs aggravated my back so badly I was in tears. The carpet was badly worn, there were holes in the walls, paint was peeling and tape was on the windows. Our room was tatty, with barely any space beside the bed, and the cramped bathroom felt unsafe, with hardly any room between the toilet and the panel. The door lock was poor too. The reception was very dark and gloomy, and I checked out a day early.

For one night while travelling around, the price was worth it. The staff and room were lovely, and everything was very clean. It was spacious, warm and quiet, with live TV and a great view of the activity in town. Even the other guests were very respectful.
