Characterful 3 Bed Cottage in Barrow Upon Humber

The village was lovely and the locals were friendly, and the caretaker who eventually came to help was great. Getting in was a mess, though. The company was rude when I called about the keys, saying I needed an app, but they never sent the link. I phoned every day for three days and often got no answer. When we arrived at the barn, we still couldn't get in. After five more calls, the caretaker showed up. We had a one-year-old and had requested a cot, highchair and stair gates, all listed as available online. Only a cot was there, and it wasn't set up. In the main bedroom, the shower has a serious pipe leak, the taps are loose, and you have to leave the water running to get it hot. The patio was covered in dead grass and had none of the outdoor furniture shown in the photos.

Hardy's Barn had some great features, but the bathrooms and en-suites really need updating. There's only one decent shower in the whole place. The bedrooms could use curtains, since they only have blinds, and the door handles were hard to operate. The main door lock system is a shambles. It's temperamental, and the app logs you out now and then, leaving you outside in the rain to enter your password again.

Once we finally found the cottage, we were very happy with it. But arriving late at night with only an access code and no information about which cottage was ours made things difficult. It was dark and hard to navigate, and I tried the code on several different doors before a kind man helped us locate the cottages.

I've stayed twice before, but this visit was a real letdown and I won't return. The place was dirty and had no heating. There was cigarette ash in the only guest cup, even though smoking isn't allowed, and it smelled of fans. There was mildew on and around the taps.
