Three Horseshoes

The country house was easy to find, set on a large estate. I was on a motorcycle, so the big secure car park was handy. The main gates are locked at night and open at 7-30am, though there's parking out front too. The room was bright and modern, with a warm, comfortable bed. Downstairs, the bar and restaurant had a cosy feel, the staff were helpful, and the food was very good. I had the hake, which was lovely. I was the only one at breakfast at 08.30. The poached eggs and toast were the best eggs I've had in ages, and the service made me feel welcome and relaxed.

We stopped in between Christmas and New Year with two kids. The menu was great, service was quick and polite, and the burger was really good. The kids loved the soft play, which kept them occupied for a couple of hours while we got some adult time.

The staff are always welcoming and very nice, and my previous Sunday lunches here have been the best by far. But today's traditional roast tasted nothing like it did before. I'm not sure if there's a new chef, but I was really disappointed with my lunch.

When problems at Cardiff airport messed up my day, I rang at very short notice to ask for a room. The attentive staff made a disastrous day much better. The rooms and bar were very nice too. A fantastic country pub.
