The view from the hotel is really lovely, and the staff were all friendly. My room was clean with lots of nice touches, and breakfast cost £14.95 and was good. The hotel is quirky and very welcoming, and the grounds looked amazing, though I didn't sit outside. It's easy to find with sat nav and the location was perfect for everything I wanted. Just be aware that getting to the main town involves little paths and tall, steep steps, so it may not suit you if walking far is difficult. A taxi costs £6, though. Parking was a bit cramped and cost £10 per night, but I managed to get a space. I didn't use the car for 24 hours, so I was fine with it being blocked in. I'd definitely stay again.

The cooked breakfast was well presented and just the right amount, and the pastries, fresh fruit, cereals, juices, hot food options, coffee and tea made it well worth paying for. We had a great stay. The bed was very comfortable, with good quality pillows. The bathroom was compact but clean and lovely, with nice little touches like nail files, hotel slippers and other niknaks. The shower was small too, but lovely and hot with fantastic water pressure. The rooms and hotel were very warm, so open a window if that bothers you. It was a relief to have parking and not worry about it. We were greeted straight away at the door, checked in and given a short tour.

We were pleasantly surprised to get a room upgrade when we arrived at Oldfields House. It was spacious, clean and looked out over the garden. The team were all friendly and polite, and the city centre is only a 10-minute walk away. Parking was tight but caused no problems, and it costs £10pn. My only regret is missing breakfast. Thanks for a great two-night stay!

The 'superior' room was appalling, especially the bathroom, which was disgusting and long overdue for refurbishment. The grout around the bath was black with mold, and the chrome was peeling off the bath fittings. There was no alternative room available, so we checked out five minutes after seeing it. We'd booked two nights through Luxury Escapes. Check-in was farcical and took the best part of an hour. All in all, this is a B&B, not a hotel, stuck in the distant past for both service and quality.

The rooms were lovely and breakfast was great. Getting the car parked was a bit of a challenge, and the walk back up from the city is a climb, though manageable. Since it's an old building, you can hear people in the other rooms, so keep that in mind.
