The milking parlour is carefully laid out, and there are plenty of animals to see, including cheeky chickens and a noisy goose. The farm is very central for visiting the coast at Bude if you have your own car. Buses run roughly every hour from the bottom of the lane, towards Hatherleigh, Holsworthy and Bude.

The animals were a highlight, especially Hugo and Gabriel the donkeys. They’re real characters, and a carrot will earn you friends for life. Penny and Paul were lovely hosts, always ready with helpful ideas for things to do. The Milking Parlour is beautifully converted, has some stunning features, and really does look as good as the pictures. It’s only 200 yards from the main road, yet feels a million miles away from everyday worries. All we heard were leaves rustling, birdsong, and the lambs bleating at feeding time, which was better than needing a watch. It’s a great base for Devon and east Cornwall. Exmoor, Dartmoor, Lynmouth, Clovelly, RHS Rosemoor, and Tavistock were all easy to reach and well worth visiting. We had such a relaxing week here, our first stay, but it won’t be our last. Thanks, Penny and Paul. We can’t wait to see what animals Penny adopts next, as long as there aren’t any crocodiles in the lake.
