The room was rustic but worked perfectly well, with a comfortable bed, a high pressure bath shower and tea making facilities. We were travelling with our dog, and everyone at The Castle Arms made us feel welcome. They even let us check into the room early before we went for a walk into Bedale. The place is in the charming village of Snape, and stopping here broke up our long journey. Booking through booking.com was smooth. We had dinner at the pub. It was busy, which we like, but they found us a table. The starters and mains were nicely presented and very well cooked, and there was a decent range of cask ales. One thing to watch: the dog costs an extra £15 per night, which wasn’t listed on the booking.com advert. It says pets stay for free, so please update the listing. We’ll be back next time we travel to or from Scotland.

On our second visit to the Castle Arms Inn with our dog, it was just as lovely as before. The staff were very nice and available, and the room was cosy. Breakfast was gorgeous too. We’ll definitely be back!

We stayed at this pub in 2015 with our two dogs and loved it. When it came up in my search again, we booked straight away for 31.10.25, and we weren’t disappointed. It’s a proper old fashioned pub with a great feel and, to us, so much more character than newer places. The service was really good and the food delicious. We sat by an open fire with our dog on one of the blankets they provide. Very dog friendly. Our room was on the small side, but had everything we needed. The bed was really comfortable and we were as warm as toast in the room and in bed. It’s a lovely little village, and we chatted with some lovely residents. We’ll definitely make this a regular place to stay. Support the pubs or we’ll lose them.

After driving over from Norfolk for a business stay, we were hoping for a quiet night. The village pub is lovely and peaceful, and both rooms were clean and a good standard. But there was no dinner available because, apparently, the chef was in Scotland, so we had to drive into Bedale to find somewhere to eat. The host apologized, though having to get back in the car was disappointing.

We found the rooms comfortable and the pub had a nice atmosphere. The food was delicious, made fresh with local produce, and the homemade pies from the chef are especially worth trying. Breakfast is cooked to order too. It’s family-run, and the team clearly puts a lot into looking after guests. A handy base for the Yorkshire Dales, with easy access to the A1.
