Howfield Manor

I was really tired and didn’t get out to explore much, but the beds were great and I felt warmly welcomed. It’s a lovely place, with really helpful, great staff. The room was great and so was breakfast. It wasn’t very expensive either. I’d definitely stay here again if I’m in the area.

We were a group of nine adults and two babies or toddlers for afternoon tea, and everyone had a magical time. The table was nicely decorated with crackers, there was plenty of tea, and the sandwiches were astonishing in number. We had meat and vegetarian options, all very well made. We voted them the best sandwiches we’d ever had at afternoon tea. There were so many scones and cakes that we took six boxes home! Everything was presented well, the staff were lovely, and the whole party enjoyed it. Our visitors from Dubai and Germany will take home great memories. In our view, this is a hidden gem and worth the return trip. Under £30 per adult seemed very fair. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

The food was adequate, and staff were helpful apart from the failure to warn us about the noise and follow up on our complaint. Our room was directly above the function suite, and for four hours we heard disco beats, party guests screaming, and every word of the DJ’s chatter. It was so loud that watching TV was pointless, reading was difficult, and sleep didn’t come until after midnight. Nobody warned us. When I raised it the next morning, I was told the hotel was full and they couldn’t move anyone. I booked expecting the out of town location to be quiet and peaceful. I was badly mistaken. I now understand the hotel promotes itself as a local wedding and events venue, so if you want a quiet weekend, I’d avoid it.

The shower pressure was weak, honestly less than the rain outside. Still, the place itself is amazing and the food is superb. The service is the best part. Stacey😋 is a star, so attentive and brilliant at everything, especially making Jack & Cokes 😂. The staff are cheerful and professional. I’d highly recommend this place.
